Tzer came together in late 2003 when mid-nineties bandmates Tom Johnson (a former Humble Pie lead guitarist) and Jennifer Scott decided to form a new band in their hometown of Chattanooga. From the beginning, they knew they wanted to be a guitar-rock trio with three-part harmonies. With the basic framework in place, the pair set out looking for a drummer. The guidelines were clear: someone who could not only play with arena-style power but who possessed the ability to handle one third of the vocals. Their search ended during a late night open jam session at a small club in East Brainerd. Randy Harden, who spent his youth drumming in the L.A. club scene, played three songs with Tom and Jennifer. Two days later, they played a large party together... and Tzer was born.
Finding their mutual roots in the classic rock of the seventies, Tzer began writing and perfecting their songs. The tight rhythms, wailing guitars, and high energy live shows of the greats like Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Ted Nugent, and Heart plus the influence of current rock artists such as the Foo Fighters, Matchbox 20, and Jet have fueled the both the songwriting and performing philosophies of this trio.
Tzer took their arena show attitude to the Chattanooga club scene in earnest in the early months of 2004, astounding audiences with both their one-set original concerts and their all-night classic rock/original shows. With nearly every Saturday night on their calendar filled, Tzer began building an intensely loyal fan base.
“We’re a goal oriented group,” explains Jennifer. “We don’t have the same mentality as the ‘garage band’ scene. We’re all about entertainment. Tzer strives to give the fans a show like the ones we grew up with. When people are rockin’ in front of the stage and singing along by the final chorus, we know we’ve done our job.”
The band released a limited number of copies of their live demo (Live at The Brick House) in early 2004. The high demand for this cd (fueled by the frequent plays it received on local jukeboxes) led the band straight to the famed Sun Studio (Memphis, TN) where they recorded their 6 song EP. Their EP sold out the first night and they have since recorded again at Sun Studio and are currently working on a live CD.
